Drum Recording in Berlin

Different rooms for a range of tones: from tight and focused to big and ambient. We also offer specially curated kits, snares and cymbals — so that your drum sessions sound like a record before the mix even starts.

THE ROOMS

Different Rooms for Different Tones

Depending on your production needs, we can use the main room or our specially designed drum room for recording drums. Our main room provides spacious ambience for a "big American" sound with plenty of boom and punch. The non-parallel walls create a lush decay with an even frequency balance. The drum room on the other hand favors a quick, musical decay — long enough to put air around the kit, short enough to stay tight when the tempo lifts. Here the walls are also non-parallel but the room is fitted with more absorption to keep things tight.

When a session calls for the drums to interact with the rest of the band, the kit moves into the main room instead — same mics, different geometry, more bleed and more breath. We consult with you to decide where the kit should go to meet the needs of your production.

Kits & snares

Kits, Snares and Cymbals Chosen with Care

We keep a curated cupboard rather than a warehouse: a handful of kits chosen for character — vintage Ludwig and Gretsch, a modern maple kit, a small jazz kit — plus a deep snare collection (wood, brass, steel, piccolo) and a working selection of cymbals from quiet rides to loud crashes. We'll match the kit to the song rather than the other way around.

  • Multiple house kits — jazz, vintage rock, modern pop.
  • Deep snare drawer covering wood, brass, steel and piccolo.
  • Cymbal selection from quiet jazz rides to loud rock crashes.
  • Bring your own kit any time — pre-loaded into the room before you arrive.

How we work

Drums that Sit in the Song

A drum sound that translates is a sound that fits the rest of the music. We start every session with the song — reference, tempo, where the drums sit in the arrangement — and tune the kit, choose the snare and place the mics from there. Triggers and samples are tools, not crutches; we only reach for them when they genuinely help.

  • Pre-production call: songs, references, tempo map, kit suggestions.
  • Tuning and mic placement matched to the song, not a template.
  • Full takes preferred; comping and editing handled cleanly afterwards.
  • Rough mixes available the same day for producer reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send tracks for a drum overdub session?

Yes — that's a normal booking. Send a rough mix and a click; we'll come back with kit and snare suggestions before the session. Edited multitracks come back the next working day.

Do you have kits and snares available, or should I bring my own?

Both work. The house cupboard covers a wide range of sounds; many drummers travel with their own snare and cymbals and use a house kit. Bring whatever helps the record.

How many songs can we realistically track in a day?

For a well-rehearsed drummer with charts and references, four to six songs in a day with multiple takes is normal. Complex arrangements or heavy editing move slower — we'll plan with you in the pre-production call.

Do you record drum samples for libraries?

Yes. Multi-velocity, multi-mic round-robin sample sessions are a regular part of the calendar. Tell us the format you need and we'll plan the session around it.

Tell us about the music, the players and the sound you'd like to hear back. We'll come back with a plan.
