Some albums are built piece by piece. Others capture a unique musical moment. When saxophonist, composer and educator Wolfgang Obert came to Hot Milk Studio, his vision was clear: create a recording that preserved the freshness, interaction and spontaneity of a great jazz performance. Rather than perfecting every detail through endless rehearsals and countless takes, he wanted to embrace the excitement that comes from outstanding musicians listening and reacting to one another in real time.

Four musicians, three rooms, almost no overdubs. The Matthew Liebeck Quartet — trumpet, piano, double-bass and drums — spent a day and a half at Hot Milk Studio recording a set of Matthew Liebeck's originals live, with full sightlines between the rooms.
